Grenville-sur-la-Rouge (Grenville)

From One Side of the River to the Other

Grenville officially became a village in 1875. The first inhabitants who settled in the region were English, and they started settling in the village in 1810. Grenville is located across the river from Hawkesbury, an Ontarian city. You only have to cross the bridge to reach the other province! The building of the Grenville canal, between 1819 and 1834, marked the beginning of the canalization of the Outaouais River. Nowadays, it has become a tourist attraction where it is always good to walk or bike.
